About Us

Izi

From a young age, I’ve been captivated by dogs, though growing up with a father who is allergic to animals, meant I couldn’t have one of my own. Instead, I found joy in caring for and bonding with the dogs of friends and family. Over the years, my love for dogs has only grown, guiding my career through various aspects of dog care—rescue, veterinary work, dog walking, and training.

I’m lucky to currently share my life with a Rottweiler, Duke, and a Springer Spaniel, Twiglet — both rescues who came into my life at unexpected times but who have both become irreplaceable members of our family.

Living and breathing dogs every day, I’ve learned what makes a dog’s life truly fulfilling. My website is where I share the walks, tips, and products that have made my own dogs’ lives better. Whether you’re looking for advice or products to enhance your dog’s life, I’m here to help you make the most of your time with your furry companions.

Duke

Where do I begin to describe Duke?!

Duke is truly one of a kind—loyal, stoic, and strong, yet with a lovable, goofy side that’s impossible to resist. He was an entirely unplanned addition to our lives. At the time, my now husband, then boyfriend, was in his final year of university, and we were navigating a long-distance relationship. Needless to say, he wasn’t thrilled when I called to say I had adopted a 9-month-old Rottweiler puppy! But fast forward 6.5 years, and Duke was the star of the show at our wedding, a memory I’ll always treasure. Having him lay at my feet the entire morning as I got ready kept me grounded and I couldn’t have done it without him.

For nearly 8 years, Duke has been my rock, guiding me through some of my most formative years. While his imposing appearance may give off an intimidating vibe, he’s really a big-hearted mummy’s boy at his core. In my dog training career, he’s been my trusted sidekick, stepping in as a stooge dog to help build the confidence of others. His role as an approved and temperament-tested Therapy Dog for a nationwide charity, including working on the stand at Crufts, has helped change many people’s perceptions of his breed.

His boundless patience with Twiglet, his younger sister, is heartwarming—they play together every day, and I think she keeps him feeling young. Despite being riddled with arthritis, Duke never lets it slow him down. With only a few grey hairs under his chin, many are surprised to learn he’s nearly 9, but his spirit and strength remain as strong as ever.

I’ve had the idea for this blog for a long time, but life always seemed to get in the way. Looking back, I regret not starting it sooner. But I’m starting now, and I’m determined to make the most of every moment Duke and I continue to share. These memories are too precious to wait any longer.

Twiglet

My husband and I had planned to add a second dog to our family in 2024, after our wedding. I had been researching cocker spaniel breeders for years. However, while on our honeymoon in October 2023, I discovered a young springer spaniel in rescue across the country. This nervous pup was terrified of strangers but found confidence in other dogs. After seeing more photos and videos, I knew she needed a professional to help her come out of her shell.

The day after we returned from our honeymoon, I pitched the idea to my husband, who was initially hesitant. After a couple of days, he agreed to meet her, along with Duke, to see how they got along. We didn’t even get to touch her—she was too afraid of people—but Duke was incredible with her, and I knew he could help her.

A few weeks later, we brought Twiglet home. It wasn’t easy. While she had coped with being left alone in rescue, it quickly became clear she had separation anxiety and stranger danger. It’s been just over a year now, and while the journey has had its challenges, she’s made remarkable progress. She has a few human friends, recognizes them, and we can even leave her home alone for a few hours if we follow a routine.

Twiglet is a little walking vet bill, but she’s more trusting when it comes to treatment at home. She’s an absolute joy to walk—there’s nothing like a happy spaniel, ears flapping and tail wagging. Though she’s less than a third of Duke’s size, she’s not afraid to challenge him, nipping at his ankles to get him to play or doing the “wall of death” around the living room.

She’s delightfully insane, and I’m so grateful we’ve been able to help her find confidence. I’m excited to see how much more she’ll grow and the progress she’ll continue to make.
